After much speculation, Bethesda have officially announced the next Skyrim add-on, Hearthfire. Far from the Psijic Order of Necromancers we’d all hoped for, the Hearthfire expansion will give the player the ability to design their own home, complete with armory, stables, garden — you name it, you can probably have it in your house.
And if that’s not like The Sims: Skyrim enough for you, you can even adopt children and raise them to be monster slayers.
One interesting addition is the ability to use new workbenches, such as the drafting table and carpenter’s workbench to turn quarried stone and sawn logs into your home and furnishings. Maybe they’ll even add a new skill tree for furniture building — at 100 you can build a Legendary Daedric ottoman!

worst. dlc. ever.
The butthurt over this one will be GLORIOUS! This DLC is really only for the consoletards that wanted the Housing and Family mods that Skyrim has already. And typical again the PC crowd gets shafted as per usual.

IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!
Wonder if there will be ANY quests….
So you can get married in the base game and you can adopt children in the DLC. Why can’t you have children of your own?
I’m betting a modder is already well on top of that glaring omission.
Also, I don’t think the PS3 even has Dawnguard yet (if it does, I haven’t seen any mention of it anywhere).
I really like this DLC. I really enjoy the build your own home mod, this looks like an expanded version of that.
Sounds like an interesting idea to me. Might have to reinstall Skyrim and get back into it one of these days anyhow, this seems almost like a good enough excuse…
I’d be interested in this for my Xbox version (I have it on PC but never get time to play it there). I wonder if you can choose the location.
Because it will take 9 months in game time to see the little beggers.
pantyraider,
Yeah I can see the fun of playing a female character, and then getting knocked up. I’m sure that would make the game extra fun.
vcatkiller,
Maybe impose a weight limitation in that case, for a very long time. No one has ever done that in a game, anyway, there’s no concept of how to make it work. It’s weird to even think about. :S
redshirt,
I think he might be making a slightly sarcastic comment…
I do think there were some distressing mods for Fallout3/NV that did this sort of thing…
Yeah, pretty much. As a guy I have no idea about what pregnancy is like, but I’ve heard enough to decide I don’t want to pretend to be pregnant in a computer game. I think the extra weight would just be a tip of the iceberg, there’s slightly more to it than that…and don’t get me started on watching my poor character giving birth. 8(
I wasn’t necessarily meaning in real time. I was thinking similar to how Fable 2 adn 3 handle that mechanic.
