The people behind ‘Total Annihilation’ want you to fund ‘Planetary Annihilation’

Planetary Annihilation

Some of you may remember Total Annihilation, 1997′s seminal RTS and still a game looked back upon fondly by millions. Well, many of that games’ creators now work at Uber Entertainment, makers of such games as Monday Night Combat, and they want to make another RTS. Only this time, they don’t want any publishers involved, because they’re asking you to fund it directly.

Planetary Annihilation is ‘Total Annihilation-inspired gameplay on a planetary scale’, and if their trailer is anything to go by, it’ll involve managing bases on multiple planets, orbital drops, asteroid captures, and even the building of gigantic rockets on the back of asteroids to push them directly onto your enemy’s base, killing them instantly. Sounds amazing.

Click here to check out the Kickstarter, and take a look for yourself. They’re asking for $900,000, and they’re nearly a third of the way there.

I saw this yesterday. At the time I was concerned that they might not be able to make the rather large (for a crowd-funded project) goal of 900k but it looks more attainable now.

I am a fan of TA so I might throw some money at them.

Saw this yesterday, just pledged $15 now. Might bump it up to $40, I always love a good soundtrack, plus beta access would be nice.

Really hope it reaches the goal

Devil is in the detail, and the details seem to be exactly the same as the previous games – as is the case with many remakes of late.

Honestly though? since i love TA and TA spring especially, i totally don’t mind an improved TA with larger battle space.

Done and done.

Total Annihilation is probably still my number one fav RTS of all time. Nothing is as fun as TA, NOTHING!

Having said that, I hate kickstarter, sorry guys

*watches trailer*

WHE! HE HEY!

*empties bank account*

LOL @ diamondd

You can give them money directly through Paypal if you hate Kickstarter :P

No hesitation from me on this one, I’m a massive supcom fan.

Threw money at them last night. Good old Mr Petti threw up a thread here:

Goddamn this looks fun, that video they’ve put out is fantastic, I hope they keep the design the same :D

Golly golly gosh. TA is still one of my favourite all-time games, definitely throwing money at this one!!

The amount of hours I’ve put into TA, TA Kingdoms, TA Spring & Supreme Commander……

WhiteKnight210

Backed for sure!

A new TA? Done and done. And how good was that video?

I threw my money at this one yesterday, first KS I’ve ever backed.

Tim Colwill: Whoops! I meant to credit him. TY!

Whoa, i was not expecting that. Cheers both Tim and ashigaru. I just want to see this game happen. Reinstalled TA to quench my thirst for its brilliance :)

How awesome is that asteroid!?!!!!! Also, so tempted by that $500 reward tier…

TA is my fav RTS, only thing that comes close is SupComm (durr)

I think that’s rather the point. Even now, many, many years later, TA has a superior interface and many other superior features to ‘modern’ RTS games like Starcraft II.

If this is basically TA with (even) bigger maps and better graphics, then it sounds superb. Hopefully they leave out all the shield stuff which IMHO ruined SupCom.

I don’t think that was the only thing that ruined SupCom, however, I love both games. SupCom2, well, that’s another story of pain.

The interface things fascinating… why don’t modern games (excluding the console debate) have better interfaces. Some games create in-game difficulty by creating bad interfaces / not allowing automation / etc. This is a horrid design feature (sorry, im ranting off topic)…. IE: Eufloria, great game, but why not allow the user to automate the moving of seeds?

TA / SupCom unit automation was great, could improve. Starcraft commands and automation? completely 1990s. I want my brain thinking about strategy – not what i’m clicking on or hotkey I’m pressing next.

/end rant.

Wow, where did I go there….

^but what about the microz man!!
