the arma 2 engine is what make dayz enjoyable and atmospheric especially at night with the amazing lighting and true darkness and the massive sense of scale of the world. No other engine can really capture this.

</blockquote>
That engine is terrible. Has little bits of good but in general terrible. And really, I have played many games that have better lighting. And the darkness isn't an engine feature, any engine can make stuff black. I do agree that other engines can't do the whole scale thing but I know a lot that can.

It definitely needs more Minecraft-like tools. Being able to build sandbags/barbed wire for enclosures, then have it as a lockable object... dig the riverbed for sand, locate barbed wire, hey presto...

Also, user-operated radios. Send out false distress signals or seek new companions, give the radio one of the vehicle/side/global frequencies and let it rip.

So much potential.

For this to be successful, they also need to make it something like the GTA open world ie. where you could do side missions, etc as well otherwise it gets pretty boring once you've found everything eg. own/run a farm (round up animals, etc) or grow stuff or something like that. Heck, even the ability to mix concrete to build stuff.

Wait… What?! .. you mean, it’s not gonna be running on the engine that Arma 3 is? .. Well, that’s completely insane.. and I am gonna pass.. If it was Arma 3, it means it would be easier to edit the land to be more “DayZ”.. every building would be able to entered from get go, and along with plenty of other fresh features DayZ could do with.

imo.. fail.

</blockquote>

their is meant to be a release before the end of the year - ARMA3 isn't slated till 'sometime' 2013.... how could it possible use the ARMA3 engine..

chern currently appears boring because many of the smaller towns simply aren't work visiting. thus an apparent 256km2 map really becomes 3 or 4 small maps serpareted by a long walk or less long car ride if lucky.

having a smarted loot spawn system which would make those towns worth would break the current (chern supermarket -> stary, NW airfield - troll chern) loop which most players seem to do.

also having players spread more would mean max player numbers on a single server could be doubled or tripled before starting to feel cluttered.

As you might be able to tell - I'm more for using what is existing smarter rather than reinventing the wheel.

I agree. No skill trees,mindsnare's idea of crowbars and blowing locks off is more than adequate I think.

I still don't know how I feel about instanced areas. Besides the potential for safe zones, the idea of an underground base seems like silly.

Every single building with a door should be accessible. That was damn frustrating when first playing DayZ and not having a single clue what you could and could not enter. Locked doors that can be opened with a crowbar, shot to the door lock with a shotty or something would be pretty cool too, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
