Rumour: New details emerge on Dragon Age 3

Dragon Age: Origins

New rumours have surfaced from the Bioware Social forums that the company is taking polls from select fans to learn more about where they would like the next Dragon Age — and the future of the series — to go. There are only a few details at the moment, and even those are open to change before we see the next game on the shelves.

That said, it seems as though Dragon Age 3 will revolve around a civil conflict in France Orlais, where the player will take a role as an Inquisitor investigating the cause. There’s also something about demons. Not sure how that fits in to the civil war side of things.

Finally, it seems as though the select few fans polled are also being asked to choose from a selection of, well, frankly underwhelming subtitles. These include Dragon Age: The Breach, Dragon Age: Exarch, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dragon Age: Inquisitor, and Dragon Age: Apocrypha.

For more details, there’s a great summary of all the info over at VG247, including images of potential companions.

There was a book set after the events of Dragon Age 2 called Asunder which was set in Orlais and detailed a growing divide between the Mages and the Templars which basically ended in the entire Circle of Magi coming to agreement to rebel against the Chantry (basically the Mage vs Templars plot from DA2 writ large).

I’d imagine some of the characters from that book would make an appearance, some possibly as companions (particularly Evangeline, a Knight-Captain in the Templars who has a crisis of conscience and defects to the Mages side and Rhys, a mage who is Wynne’s son and also had the deciding vote to determine the Mages course of action against the Templars).

Dragon Age: Inquisition is the only title that would be useable.

Dragon Age: Once more for the money

Focus Grouping. It’s f**ked politics pretty well, now watch it f**k up games.

Now if only they could take a leaf out of ‘The Thick Of It’ and reduce the focus group to one person, who is actually an actor, that would be perfect.

The list of the only guaranteed things in life has expanded, it’s now death, taxes AND irony.

A title that’s actually descriptive of what’s in the game would be fine. I’m not too fussed about the title, so long as it’s NOT Dragon Age 3.

Also, for the love of gaming, actually have a plot in this one, please. Though it sounds like they may have that covered.

Meh, it’s already ruined by having Dragon in the title, so it doesn’t really matter – it’s going to sound like pulp fantasy anyway.

Hopefully it focuses on the political and social side of the story again, I’ve had it up to the eyeballs with stereotyped fantasy trash – dwarves, demons, dragons and orcs (call it a hurlock if you like, I know an orc when I see one).

They can get away with the elves, since they’ve made them short, miserable little guttertrash hippyfolk who are despised by almost everyone. Hopefully they can sideline the rest and focus on some more original themes.

Hmmm… I seem to have a soapbox stuck to my foot.

ooshp,

That’s my soapbox, I knew it went somewhere…

I think that if there’s one thing that the popularity of Game of Thrones (or better yet A Song of Ice & Fire) has demonstrated its that elves, dwarves, magic and all the other high fantasy bollocking can quite adequately be replaced by a decent scoop of gritty realism, tits and political intrigue. Now where are the game devs willing to do this?

Also I know that there was a Game called Game of Thrones, I am DELIBERATELY ignoring it because I am happier when I forget it exists.

For christ sake Bioware DO NOT limit the game to a single city and a few fucking dungeons, And DO NOT release DLC that just changes the dungeons entrance to the exit and the exit to the entrance, Remove mobs from spawning in the middle of combat, Raise the difficulty bar instead of players just chugging down potions in Origins or Not using potions at all in DA2, And i May consider a purchase.

Remember Baldur’s Gate Bioware? yaknow when your party members died they would die for good until you pay a priest to resurrect them or later in the game have a party member with the ability to raise party members from the dead? Yeah bring back that. But it’s okay i know they wont because they seem to live in this bubble that makes them think all gamers who play RPGs don’t want a challenge at all. :|

Oh and it would be nice in Origins if they didn’t offer a DLC armor set that you need to own another game for, That is the best armor set for the entire middle section of the game. Seriously i was in that Blood Dragon armor set for around 65%-70% of the game.

Dragon Age: Leliana’s Return.

Seriously, if they don’t feature her in an Orlais setting, I imagine a lot of fans will be unhappy.

How about Dragon Age: Freedom, an RPG about making choices and having the freedom to do whatever you want. Something tells me however that if they have even fucking decided that you are a paladin and got no say in it, character customization and choice in the game will be at an all time low.

Wouldn’t that be Dragon Age: Mel Gibson?

Hey set it in Scotland and have smelly blokes try to woo Leliana with axes…
