snazz: That’s a very small range I must say :P. What about their previous unsuccessful attempts at “Battlefield clones”? Frontlines and Homefront.

Their short involvement with official Battlefield development was limited to prototyping features for Battlefield 2. Which turned out little like the Desert Combat mod apart from simply being “modern” (DC was actually set during the 1991 Gulf War).

As much as Desert Combat changed and added to Battlefield 1942, it largely relied on it’s content and features. The majority of it’s playerbase also promptly migrated to BF2, suggesting few appreciated DC’s unique aspects and just wanted a modern FPS with helicopters & jets.

So when EA DICE layed them off, they didn’t have much else to go on but their reputation as ‘the guys who gave us DC’. They had to go to a different platform (Unreal Engine) and start from scratch.

That said, if they want to stubbornly continue developing alternatives to Battlefield good on them. Right now is probably as best a time as ever, considering the backlash from part of the community towards the recent state of the franchise.

To be honest, there was little to go on (their studio doesn't have an enormous following) so I wasn't aware of their in depth history. But since they are making what is essentially a full version of the work they did on BF and their mod, what I mentioned was a fair chunk of their experience.

aww man, that sucks. was going to play TF2 tonight – but now i need to play Ravaged again AND my beta key for War of the Roses just game through :( plz can we have the 90′s back? with one or two good releases a year? ;P

You broke the WOTR NDA by telling people that.

This game has promise, the PC needs a good new PC exclusive MP title (Red Orchestra 2 did satisfy that gap for a while imo).

I don't recall an NDA with the beta so- at the moment, apart form the minor annoyance of the texture popping - my only real gripe is the vehicle controls. I like that the gyrocopter is hard to fly, but the ground vehicles are too unforgiving - the lag time between your wheels turning and the vehicle actually turning is annoying and the very digital feel of that turning is bad too - your wheels are either straight ahead or hard left/right. If they can fix that, for me, it will be be friggin magnificent.

Also kudos to the devs for taking a lot of input from the community on the beta forums.
