Monolith founder working to restore Blood

Remember Blood? The 1997 release was the first game from F.E.A.R. developer Monolith, in collaboration with the legendary 3D Realms, and has a deserved cult following. Monolith founder and former CEO Jason Hall certainly remembers it, and wants to bring it back, in all its glory, for modern platforms – PC and beyond. The developer has opened a verified thread on Blood fansite The Postmortem, calling for feedback and suggestions from those with fond memories of the gore-splattered shooter. Hall has secured all the necessary legal rights to produce and release the updated version, and is doing it out of the goodness of his heart – it’ll be free, so he won’t make a return on the investment.

I was playing this earlier today on my 486, my favourite game on the build3d engine for sure.
Rise of the Triads, Blood… what’s next? Shogo M.A.D. or Shadow Warrior? Maybe Bungie will remake Oni with cover mechanics.
It’ll be a nice retro break from CoD or BF I guess.

Holy F#*$ yes!
I loved both Blood and The Chosen (2). It was filled with total dark humour and unique weapons I adored. Good old zombie head kicking, flare gun, crazy monks, fun levels (I loved the Carnival) and of course Calebs quotes from the 90s.
A shadow warrior remake would be nice.

I’d like to see a remake of the original. And I hope its just as hard, games around that time where much harder than todays games.
Given he’s doing it for free, I wouldn’t expect to see it completed any time soon.
If you guys read the actual thread on postmortem you’ll come to realise that hes not remaking or rebooting the game, its going to keep the same graphics with higher resolution and proper network connectivity, ala Jdoom/zDaemon et al.
For me, the single player game was fun. Really enjoyed it. But the multiplayer was awesome. Spent many a night playing vs my brother, and we had a ball. One of the few games I’ve found where 1v1 was really enjoyable.

this was an awesome game but i never played multiplayer as i didnt have a very good internet connection even for those times :(
but i loved the game cos the hero’s name was my name :D as a kid that rocked so hard !!!
Perhaps this guy should contact the XLEngine guy? The two together could put something together nice and quick and end up with something rather special I imagine. (instead of two rather average ports)
