matthewdev: Exactly I figure for only $30 it’s not the end of the world if I don’t get right into it :) And the vast majority of people I know who have played it rate it pretty high

Something else to consider, Skyrim has excellent mod support (for a new game). You can use the integrated steam workshop or mods from Skyrim Nexus etc.

$30 doesn't just buy you Skyrim (which in itself is a good game), but it also buys you a butt-load of mods and potential which directly translates to more re-playability and value for money.

Just have a look at something like MERP (Middle-Earth total conversion that's shaping up well). The fact that it's even possible is incredible. Same goes for the previous games in that engine (Oblivion, Fallout 3 + NV). Some of the mods give them infinitely more replay value. Despite these games usually having problems, many of them get fixed with mods, which simply doesn't happen with other games.

If you have a beefy machine, I'd start with more of the visuals-centric mods and bug-fix mods (Skyrim Unofficial Patch, crafting/smithing fixes etc) for a more vanilla experience. Then have a go at the more gameplay changing stuff afterwards.

That said... I think Bethesda should actually be applauded for their conduct in this manner. They drew up a shitload of press-a-bulloo in saying they didn't know when it was coming for PC; but didnt leave it too long without releasing it.

Perfect amount of cheeky-shittery. Well played Bethesda :D

They can't even use the normal excuse that its our retailers pressuring for price parity, as this is DLC. Its Bethesda purely embracing region pricing for their own profit and nothing to do with local distributers.
