Diablo III‘s servers are coming down tonight, and when they come back up they’ll have the 1.0.4 patch ready to go – which will include the new ‘Paragon’ system announced today.
Paragon levels are a new tier of levels that kick in once you’re past level 60, and there’s exactly 100 of them – each of which will give you increased core stats as well as a 3% Gold Find and Magic Item Find buff (up to a maximum of 300%, naturally).
Why? “It can be demoralizing to play for an hour, not get any drops, and also be out a big chunk of gold from repair costs. Your play session may not only end without an upgrade, it can wind up being a net loss,” writes Jay Wilson. “We know that a lot of you out there are level 60 — maybe on multiple characters — and this system provides a way to make progress every time you log in to the game.”
Full patch notes for tonight can be found here.

But I thought the need for more character depth wasn’t needed. It seems their backtracking fast on alot of things and these paragon levels are pretty basic but at least their something.
The problem is beyond getting gear upgrades you don’t really get more powerful hopefully this will help but the bonuses seem really minor, stat wise but I guess they’d stack up.
EDIT: Changed ’3000%’ to the correct ’300%’ because I am awful at maths.
HUGE PATCH. MUY BUENO.
cyrinno,
Yeah, but it’s a step forward at least for those who are lvl 60 as well as setting things up for when more areas are available. It took Borderlands 3 DLC packs before they realised that they needed to up the level cap. At least Blizzard are doing it before any DLC or expansion.
I just want that bloody expansion to be announced next and I hope there will be significantly more areas to play through. I think 5 classes is about right… I just want to be able to take them through new areas rather than the same old campaign which I’ve done 5 times already.
I think the changes are great, the Paragon system adds something to do post 60 but the biggest change I think will be the skill build variation we will see now some of those changes are huge buffs and while only buffing 1 skill would seem simple enough it adds alot more then meets the eye.
To be honest, I haven’t played D3 in over a month or more, but this patch seems like it’s going to get me right back into it.
It really feels like a “re-launch” of sorts, because now the game feels more finished and feels like it wasn’t rushed.
lol… all that had to do from the outset was make it more like d2. and less like d3. OH LOOK! patches that make d3 more like d2! :D
And the update has started… 30min before I was gonna snipe in an auction. Luckily I saw the system update and sniped early :-P
I stopped playing for a while now. was thinking this might get me back into it so i jumped online, 5 mins later im rubber banding (lag) all over the place. Probably wont play it again.
