Day Z stand-alone will be polished to a fault, “I’m sick of the problems” says Rocket

Day Z

Sometimes bugs in a game can be fun. Personally, I love silly bugs, and I love it when I can’t tell if a glitch is a bug or a feature. Talking to Gamereactor, Day Z creator Dean Hall muses as to whether the standalone game will lose some of its personality as it increases it’s polish.

“That is a definite danger you know. There’s almost a humour that has developed around some of the bugs in it,” he said. “I saw a really funny Youtube video of the graphical glitches set to dubstep. And I couldn’t help but laugh as much as it pains me, because the graphical glitches just drive me completely crazy. But I had to laugh cause it was kind of funny. So you know there’s sort of something about that, but I think we need to tidy it up. It’s totally at the point now where people are just getting sick of a lot of the problems. I’m sick of the problems. So we have to fix those.”

I saw a copy of Combined Ops in EB Games the other day. The cover was tainted with a “required to play DayZ” sticker. I did not like that one bit. This cool story brought to you by Bro Inc.

Or the fact the Arma 1 Steam page says THIS IS NOT THE GAME NEEDED TO PLAY DAYZ YOU NEED ARMA 2 COMBINED OPs and links to the right page. I found that amusing and assume that people have bought the wrong game somehow (for that message to even exist).

The graphical glitch related to military dead body models is super, super annoying. No amount of fixes I’ve tried work. You can jump into the pack files and modify the models with alternate existing ones but battleye turfs you for that. Flush half works. The nvidia control panel multi thread setting half works. Still can’t get rid of it completely.

The funny thing is that it’s super easy to fix in this case, they just need to open the map file and remove the dead soldier corpses temporarily. I’m not holding out for a quick fix, i think Rocket “fixed” the tank traps doing the same thing about 5 times before he finally got it right.
