Modder Durante has fixed what he considers the “last huge bug” of the mod to solve Dark Souls internal resolution issues on PC. Version 0.4, which can be downloaded here, fixes the depth-of-field effect in the game, as well as adding an .ini setting to override the resolution on the depth-of-field effect.
“I also provide the option to completely disable DoF scaling,” writes Durante. “However, I don’t recommend that. I think the game looks better with DoF, and it’s the way From Software intended it. Also, disabling the DoF this way may actually reduce performance.”
Durante’s mod has received widespread coverage since its announcement, but From Software or Namco Bandai are yet to make a comment on the issue.

A version up from that with even more fixes/features. This guy’s amazing! :)
Would be interesting to hear what From Software have to say about it I think. I wonder if anybody over there has actually heard anything about it yet?
Not trying to stir up the hornets nest here, but surely it would have been a trivial matter for the developers to have added a resolution setting if one guy can do it in his spare time, with no access to the development tools etc.
Pretty much, he did it within four hours of the game being released. I’m gonna laugh when From Software hate on the guy, for modding their game. Just have an incling that they wont give the guy praise, far from it.
He had a framework ready for the release. From what I have read this took him weeks to develop. I also suspect that his method for fixing the resolution is more of a hack and not something that you would normally program. i.e it takes a lot more resources to increase the resolution this way then if it was coded ‘properly’ this is not a big issue as it is game that can run on consoles which are less powerful then most people’s PC’s.
He did a fantastic job, but From Software made a fantastic game to start with :|
I should buy this game.
I think you’re missing the point though, this guy was able to mod it to run at 1080p in 4 hours, sure he built the framework up during a couple weeks beforehand, but FS has the game at their disposals for far longer then that, the point was that he was able to do it in a short amount of time, whereas FS couldn’t care less about increasing the resolution, there’s a 30fps lock for god’s sake, what purpose does that have?
nudge,
Yes, fantastic game. Just a craptacular port that’s all. You can put that down to lack of experience of the platform, but it doesn’t change the fact. That said perhaps this will convince them to hire one or two PC experts for their next outing, should they decide to continue developing PC titles?
Anyhow looks like the results of this mod are positive so far.
Yes you should. :)
I bet From Software (or, more likely, Namco Bandai) are going to force a takedown of the mod due to “copyright infringement” (to use the term very loosely).
Given the high number of dick moves both companies have made regarding the PC version of Dark Souls, I wouldn’t be surprised if this happens.
palzer0,
On what grounds? He hasn’t infringed copyright anywhere, he made a completely seperate DLL that intercepts the dx commands and ups the resolution.
If anything, FROM Software will release this fix in one of their patches.
I also find it funny how many people are complaining about this poor port and how from software are this and that.
From Software were always very open about the development of the PC version, they never lied or tried to deceive us, they told everyone in advance that they had no PC experience and that it would just be a barebones port, they also mentioned the resolution issues etc. before the game was released.
If anything, they should be praised for at least being decent about it and not letting people find out after the fact.
For what its worth though, as far as bad ports go, I don’t rate this among them, the game runs fine, looks good (better with the fix obviously) and it works. Thats more than I can say for many other Ports.
It’s not copyright infringement, it’s just a dll that intercepts DX9 API calls.
I’m enjoying this game heaps. So glad to have the opportunity to play this awesome game, as I don’t have a PS3 and no plans to buy one. the one major gripe I had with the upcoming port was the resolution, so glad that was fixed. One last thing is 30fps lock, but i believe that is hard coded in the game as it was animated around it.
30fps feels fine to me, doesn’t feel slow or anything like some other games, as as you said samurai047 I think its hardcoded in and based on the animation and all that sort of jazz.
oh hey bro,
I made this awesome thing in 0.01 second, im only counting the 1 button click it took to compile, all the weeks before that doesn’t count.
revengous,
Stop talking about things you know NOTHING about!
The DX9 DLL he made was only made so he could intercept what the game is sending to the GFX driver and change it!
He would not have need the DLL at all if he had access to the source code (you know… LIKE FROM SOFT DOES!), it would have been even quicker and easier!
sorry bro,
guess I dont know what time is, how long is a minute? perhaps it takes longer to press a button than I thought.
please, have this complementary hippo butt, it represents how much of a douche you look by responded with pure rage without reading what I wrote.

revengous,
Posting pictures of yourself isn’t a way to win an argument you know. :P
