‘Command & Conquer Generals 2′ now to be F2P ‘Command & Conquer’

EA have announced a new free-to-play online strategy game, titled Command & Conquer. What an original title, I know! They have also said that it will include the previously announced game Command & Conquer Generals 2, which BioWare was said to be developing but now appears to be folded into this new free-to-play reboot. There are more details over at their site, where they will also urge you to sign up for the beta. Check out the trailer below, and tell us what you think. Is this the next Command & Conquer game you were hoping for?

I hope it’s not another C&C 4…

be interesting to see how this plays on frostbite2…

Great another nVidia based title…

eww, more forced multiplayer in my C&C

I would have only ever bought it for the campaign and possibly some co-op multiplayer. I can’t imagine I’ll even get the second now. Not happy.

Registered. Wonder what sort of in-game crap they’ll be selling though to make their $’s…?

I’m with you mate… never got into competitive RTS. Campaigns FTW! I do like comp stomps (which is pretty much co-op).

Personally, considering the lack of singleplayer story in Generals, Generals 2 should have been a F2P title and the reboot should have been a proper retail package with a campaign, etc.

I see no hint of Tiberium or Kane so it’ll be interesting to see what the theme of this C&C will be like.

i look forward to this with cautious optimism. im not against free 2 play, and i only ever played skirmishes in rts games. cnc4 was ok imo, i didnt mind it at all,

Will there be a traditional single player campaign?
Not at launch. We are currently focused on building a fun, high quality RTS experience that we want to get in your hands on as soon as possible. From there, we will continuously evaluate additional content based on a variety of player feedback methods.

From the FAQ on the website. In which case pass…for now. I’ll wait until they add a nice single player campaign thank you very much, can’t stand competitive multiplayer. Especially over the internet. With a free game. *shudder*

Will it have LAN? still play generals to this day on lans.

Hear me out, I’ve got a pretty radical idea, but I think I may be on to something. Are you ready? Okay, here it is: How about, a Command and Conquer game that actually follows the established Command and Conquer formula?

I know… probably too out of the box to actually fly. *rollseyes*

What a let down. :(

Free 2 play? more like Micro-transactions….
EA cash junkies..

you guys are crazy. CnC Generals: Zero Hour has some of the best multiplayer RTS action around, and not just in the CnC series either. If they can replicate that then they don’t need anything else.

What waste of what could have been the greatest RPS title ever. A Frostbite RTS?

ugh.
ah well.

what? did you want it to be an ATI based title with sh** driver support????

Not Planetary Annihiliation… not interested.

EA grinding the cash cow of free-to-play I see.

I reckon my mates and I will stick with CnC3 thanks EA.

agentdark,

agreed
