“To take a franchise that has been around so long, that has such a big following (…) to try and reimagine that is the same as having to redo a James Bond or a Batman,” says Crystal Dynamics’ global brand director, Karl Stewart. Stewart went on to explain that re-imagining Tomb Raider was actually more stressful than developing an entirely new IP. “I think the challenge that we had in the early stages, which is starting to come to fruition now, was that you can be really creative on a new IP,” said Stewart. “But I think when you are looking at a franchise that has been around as long as Tomb Raider has, that a lot more is at stake right now.”

I feel like they never stop trying to re-imagine Tomb Raider and thats half the problem.
But they did re-imagine batman. Arkham City and Asylum. They were great.
I think they were referring to Batman Begins and Casino Royale. Arkham Asylum and City follow the actual comics continuity pretty closely.
James bond gets re-imaged every time they get a new actor.
There is a huge difference – which the game developers seem not to understand – between a reboot where you respect the central character and a “reboot” where you don’t.
They seriously need to forget about Lara for a decade.
