PlanetSide 2 Approaching Beta Test

PlanetSide 2

Upcoming MMOFPS PlanetSide 2 is rapidly approaching its beta phase, and as such, have posted a new summary of their plans for the beta. Starting this week, July 9th to 15th, the post outlines who will be getting beta keys, saying they will be opening up the test in multiple stages, adding more and more people with each stage.

Also, it’s worth noting that players of the original PlanetSide do not need beta keys – their accounts will automatically be flagged for beta, and they’ll be notified by email.

Finally, they want you to know that this is a real beta, unlike many that are just promotional and/or game demos. “Beta testing is a critically important part of our development cycle on this project, we may be asking you to only play on tanks for a play session, or only play aircraft. We are doing true beta testing, not just a game demo and we implore those of you who are invited to understand and respect that. Things will break, the server will be unavailable sometimes, we will cancel scheduled tests when we find something that breaks before the test starts. All of this will help us make a better final game.”

cue random whiner during the beta test that the game is not optimized or balanced… because… well you know, internet random never bloody read the text.

That announcement is so bang on the money. Once upon a time getting into an alpha or beta, you’d get a little package in the mail with a few cd;s in it – oh the excitement. It was actually about testing, rather than people somehow feeling it was a a demo for their pleasure. I’d be interested to know in general how many players actually bother to offer proper construction feedback and bug reporting as opposed to simply playing.

Yes Beta tests have gone out the window, the true betas are now Alphas.

bronzed,

cyrinno,

Marcus Dunn,

I believe they should remove anyone who starts to complain about it or anything of the sort, that’ll get things rolling.

Can’t wait for this battlefield killer.

I always do but I feel like the odd one out when I make constructive posts on the games forums regarding issues. I also put in time to see if I can find a workaround (like if say the graphics are funny try different settings in the options).

Also I found that a lot of issues reported for Betas are vague posts that don’t offer enough info for the devs to fix the issue.

I wonder if Total Biscuit will appear in a video when you start the beta and tell you all about the game ;p
