Path of Exile test weekend approaches, all welcome

Path of Exile

New Zealand-developed action-RPG Path of Exile has been turning a lot of heads lately, and this weekend they’re hoping to turn even more. Their servers will be opened to the public at 5PM (NZ time) this Friday and run until 7PM on Monday 30th (also, NZ time). You can download the client ahead of time to get ready from here, but you’ll still need to sign up for an account on the official site.

Anyone who’s interested in Diablo (or any ARPG for that matter) should definitely give Path of Exile a whizz. It’s not quite as slick as Diablo III, but it has some fantastic ideas and systems in place. It’s free, so nothing to lose really.

Cheers.

Any chance of Node hosting the client?

tranquil,

They can’t, the bulk of the downloading is done by the installer.

Ive been playing it for ~6 months now, and its probably one of the best A-RPG’s I’ve ever played. I highly recommend giving it a go during the open weekend.

I played it for a little while. The skill system is fun and so is the combat… the only problem I had was the latency. For a NZ hosted game I still get more delay in combat than D3.

aggabo,

Not 100% sure where the servers are hosted, but they are definitely not in New Zealand (where the game is developed). I can’t remember where they are hosted, but I do remember someone from Grinding Gear Games stating that the cost of bandwidth in New Zealand was 200 times more expensive.

Cheers.

The 9.11 patch added a new server so currently there are servers located in the US, Europe and now Singapore. I’ve been playing on the Singapore server recently which has a much lower pings than the American one. Although I still get the occasional desync.

Also, a lot has changed since the last open weekend, so I recommend people who participated in the last event to give it another go.

Brilliant game! It’s the game D3 should’ve been. And the polish IS getting there with the last few patches (new skill tree, act 2 boss …).

They’ve just implemented a a new server in Singapore so us aussies can get half decent pings too. Get on it!!!!!
