Quick – when I say ‘Aliens’, what do you think of? Okay, apart from H.R. Giger’s Xenomorphs. Is it Ripley? It’s Ripley, right? Of course it is. Because she’s the main protagonist through FOUR movies, while simultaneously being one of the strongest female characters in any film.
Even if we narrow it down to ‘Aliens’ – the film Aliens: Colonial Marines draws most of its inspiration from – there are three other strong female characters in that one alone (RIP Vasquez). So how, do you think, Gearbox ‘forgot’ to add women to the multiplayer portion of Aliens: Colonial Marines? The “most badass military outfit in the galaxy”, and not one woman? If you think this is an embarrassing oversight, there is a petition to change it over here – do give it a good signing.

Why can not haz writer of article if any?
thats a good thing.. because ripley is a one off if they forced female roles into the game theyd come out lame and over the top.
I don’t see anything wrong with the odd female marine that happens to be playable in multiplayer (which has little to no involvement with the story). For the sake of diversity they should bring in female characters. The lack of that aspect reminds me of AvP, an incomplete and flawed game.
^why stop there then? Don’t recall seeing any female characters in the latest Call of Dutys or Battlefields…
Pretty obvious oversight. I think it would be truer to form if a female player was an option. I think there were 3 female marines in Aliens, and then there was Ripley
would be good if they put some female marines in it, but oh well lol i don’t care what genders are in it, aslong as the game is great!
