Market research showed gamers wanted to be scared together with Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3

EA Games’ marketing head Laura Miele has claimed that market research led to the decision to include co-op in Dead Space 3, saying that “the obvious next step” in the series was to include co-op, as many gamers they talked to felt they’d rather share a scary experience with another player alongside them. “It’s still true to its roots and no less scary,” says Miele, “but people felt far more comfortable playing it with someone else than they did doing it on their own. We’re looking for that to reach out to consumers that perhaps were not open to Dead Space 1 and 2.”

Finally.

The last decade has had some gems but mostly it’s been “nobody wants co-op, also we’re too lazy to make it screw you”.

I still reckon the co-op is a cheap ass way to justify an online pass.

Who is this clown?: if your feel comfortable in a game THAN THE GAME CEASES TO BE SCARY!

In addition to the above point: how on earth can this new DS be “true to its roots” if you are making it more accessible?

Sigh…

bollocks

Deadspace was scary?

oh whopse, i guess i was obliterating those nercromorphs too easily with my SUPERIOR AIMING device ie: mouse to realize that they were supposed to be scary.

all notion of scary in deadspace dissipated the moment i see every set piece and can see the monster in the closet or the quicktime event or the timed event 5 minutes before it even occurred thanks to obvious signs.

plus the fact that with a mouse, and a rifle, one can effectively dismember every necromorph easily with pin point accuracy and plentiful of ammunition (since assault rifles ammunition are numerous) as the necromorphs shambles toward you at the ‘console’ player reaction speed.

This, though I disagree with your reasonings.

I don’t have an issue with co-op really and I question whether it’ll have a real impact on the game if you’re still playing solo unless you get an AI buddy when you’re alone. I wonder how things like the vents and upgrade stores are going to work now.

the fact its taken developers this long to realize that everyone loves coop.

scary or not, co-op is a great addition to the series.

ugh, I hate coop in games.

Dead Space 1 was good, 2 tried to appeal to the COD crowd and was an average game and I don’t see Dead Space 3 getting back to DS1 levels (I hate coop).
