Two days ago we reported that you could buy now commodities in Diablo III‘s real-money auction house and that gold was slated for ‘the near future’. Apparently that future is now! As of today, in-game currency is available for purchase in the auction house, with real money. The effect this will have on Blizzard’s virtual economy over the next few weeks remains to be seen.

desperate move to milk as much as they can
Must say D3 is the first game from Blizzard that is actually pretty bad. Lost interest mid hell.
except they had this planned from the start. and they only left it until now because they wanted to get everything working properly, and ban as many bots as possible.
sick of these uninformed trash comments on GON and on any place that discusses diablo 3. stating your opinion on why you didn’t enjoy it is fine, but stating things that are simply incorrect makes you look like an idiot.
one interesting thing this has had is the effect on third party gold prices. in the last few days the price for gold via the big gold sellers has tripled from $10 per 10million to almost $30 per 10 million. interesting to note that this matches up fairly well with the floor of $25 per million via the RMAH.
unfortunately I was stuck in the middle of some transactions when gold trading was released and lost a decent amount of gold. oh well. live and learn.
$25??? per million?
impossible, it was less than 10 dollar per million on the highest point last month in the trade channel, and it was steadily going down…
you sure it’s $25 per million and not $2.5 per million?
I havent played D3 yet, Do you/guys know how much Gold is going for?
i read 25 per million
Is that $25 for a Million Gold?
generalherpes,
Yep same.
And I am fairly sure it is $2.5 per million.
They are selling 1,000k of D3 gold in WoW trade chat for $2, lol.
Blizzard dont know what they are doing.. They should sell Gold only on the RMAH.. nothing else will sell now. You would be stupid to buy with cash instead of gold.
Item’s that sell for 2M+ gold now on the GAH, sell for $200 cash on RMAH, but not after today…. Big margin of error there..
I say they are milking it because they rather release RMAH updates then game updates.
It would be fine if they released it much later except there is so much that needs to be fixed and balanced.
It’s so obvious that the RMAH is the game first that the even a fanboy like yourself should be able to see that
its $2.50 per million guys , but yea , just to milk some more money b4 every1 stops playing imo…
yeah my bad. I meant $25 per 10 million, or $2.5 per million. point is, gold trading being opened on RMAH had a massive effect on third party gold trading.
eh, that’s not a horrible idea, but it would remove some opportunities. the main thing being that anyone that wants to change gold into money has to find a buyer of gold, whereas with the current system they just have to find someone that wants to buy their item.
urgh. did you know there is more than one person working on diablo 3? which means the company can work on more than one thing at once. they would have a team working on the AH, 1.0.4 and 1.1.
what do you mean much later? they waited ages to fix everything up. everything is stable, and they have had multiple ban waves. there wouldn’t be any point in waiting.
it’s not so obvious. idiots like you just like to make up conspiracy theories because you think it makes you look intelligent, but it really doesn’t.
that doesn’t make sense because they were always going to do this. if they wanted to milk money they would have released gold trading on release when it was going for 3x as much as it did now (which means 3x as much tax).
it’s amazing that simple and obvious facts disprove your statements, but you insist on continuing to make them.
