Company of Heroes 2 details weather system, extreme cold mechanics

Company of Heroes 2

Company of Heroes 2 is shaping up to be one game where you won’t want to leave your troops idling around as you try to figure out a plan of attack – mostly because they’ll freeze to death. “On winter maps, Infantry units exposed to the bitter cold will gradually freeze to death unless the player keeps them warm by building fires and garrisoning them in buildings,” writes Relic in a press release.

“Dynamic blizzards will increase the effects of extreme cold making it even more hazardous to leave infantry in the open,” it continues. Snow in the game actually has a measurable depth, which is used to affect troop and vehicle movement – and can be removed by the player with heat in what Relic assure us is a dynamic and realistic fashion. Ice can also be collapsed from too much weight, or deliberately broken by other players to plunge your units instantly to the icy depths. Intriguing stuff!

This is great, now my terrible micro will kill off the units that I fail at moving, so I can build more tanks and charge them straight through the choke-point.

Must be using the Frostbite engine.

i assume that’s supposed to be a pun… or sarcasm… and ur not serious.

:D

It’s an awful name for a game engine though, or for anything really.

By which terrible medical condition will DICE call their next tech?

It will be interesting to see how this new game runs on the Essence 3 engine.

Im all for this game but Im also keen for C&C generals 2. both games next year!
