Stretching 1.9km between U.S. and Russian deployment zones, Battlefield 3‘s upcoming Bandar Desert map for the ‘Armored Kill’ DLC is being touted by DICE as the biggest in any Battlefield game to date – longer than Caspian Border and longer even than Fushe Pass from Battlefield 2.
“Should you count the distance between your spawned jet and the enemy spawned jet, you will end up with 2,400 meters on Bandar Desert,” writes DICE Designer Inge Jøran Holberg. “From the closest capturable flag to the furthest capturable flag, you are looking at around 1,200 meters. For Caspian Border, the equivalent distance is just about 400 meters.” Holberg also offers some tips for handling the extreme new open vistas in-game, so take a look.

And from within the Spectre gunship cabin above the dessert… everyone is the size of gnats, and within arms reach, arms made of 105 howitzer.
Hope the capture points aren’t in the middle.
trying to think of a desert type map in BF2 which was huge… thought it came as a booster back… or a separate download… anyone remember the name?
Highway Tampa?

thats the one… i wonder if it’ll be bigger than that
El Alamein 2.0?
LOL, highway Tampa with it’s intel pentium billboards scattered about the place. Wasn’t a great map IMHO. Zatar wetlands was a huge map that worked well, Operation Cleansweep was pretty big and could be ok if the US didn’t get stuck in their uncap.
Pretty much every BF2 map is bigger (or at least feels bigger) than BF3 maps.
Distance between main flags in
Zatar Wetlands: 1802m
Fushe Pass: 1662m
Highway Tampa: 1608m
The biggest official BF2 maps are 2x2km (4km²) in total area and much of it is out-of-bounds.
The biggest unoffical BF2 map is The Falklands from the mod Project Reality which is 16x16km (256km²) in total area. So big that the minimap only covers the middle 8x8km and the terrain had to be modelled. Gameplay Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QckdN24VbmQ
I don’t think so, BF3 maps have a lot more detail and clutter around the place compared to the sparse BF2 maps. perhaps that is giving the claustrophobic feeling?
Or maybe because all the capture points seem so close to one another?
I’m with you on this one, the points feel closer and the maps themselves just feel smaller.
I’d be more than happy to have a sparse map with all the clutter at the control points, you know, like most deserts tend to be.
thats kinda funny.. from jet to enemy jet spawn = 2400m.
not even near an airports runway length
bigger than el alamein?

I’ll continue to just play TDM on bf3, And keep large map wars to games where the jets aren’t dumbed down and slow as sh%t to “balance”….
