The world Minecraft takes place in is a genderless one, says Notch

Minecraft

Do you play Minecraft? Did you know that, if you do, you are playing a homosexual? That’s right, homophobes, in Minecraft there is only one gender which means, by default, you and every chicken, cow and creeper don’t have any choice when it comes to sexuality. Not that that’s the point, of course. It’s just an interesting side-effect from the fact that, according to Notch, the Minecraft world is a genderless one.

“The human model is intended to represent a Human Being. Not a male Human Being or a female Human Being, but simply a Human Being,” Notch has stated on his Tumblr. “The blocky shape gives it a bit of a traditional masculine look, but adding a separate female mesh would just make it worse by having one specific model for female Human Beings and male ones. That would force players to make a decisions about gender in a game where gender doesn’t even exist.” So there you go, sports racers.

The lack of a female model neve bothered me too much, really. A female voice set would be cool though…my Yuki skin sounds really odd falling off a cliff and uttering a deep gutteral grunt when she impacts the ground. <_<

(not that that really bothers me much either, just saying…)

…Imagine blocky boobs…end story

24threever,

Ahhh Lara Croft in her first outing? :P

Where did you get that from? All Notch said was that the world was genderless; we don’t know how the steves (players) reproduce. It could be asexually for all we know.

nacimota,

Actually, that’s not all he said! Those are actually his words, not mine. At the bottom of the Tumblr he says, “Also, as a fun side fact, it means every character and animal in Minecraft is homosexual because there’s only one gender to choose from. Take THAT, homophobes!”

Silly thing to say really. I must have missed the part of the game where you have love relations with other characters/players because otherwise, how could they be homosexual? <_<

vcatkiller,

Well, life has to continue somehow!
